Pillar 01 · Service
Our philanthropy is Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Brazos Valley. We raise funds, run events, and serve as mentors.
Our philanthropy
Big Brothers Big Sisters is the nation’s largest donor- and volunteer-supported mentoring network.
They recruit adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and match them with at-risk youth (“Littles”) to build nurturing, positive relationships that help Littles reach their full potential. Iron Spikes is proud to serve the Brazos Valley branch as event facilitators, financial contributors, and mentors.
Through the program, we hope every child achieves:
Activities
Most of our fundraisers support BBBS, and several members are Bigs themselves. We also give back in plenty of other ways.
Constructing portable medical cabins for communities in developing countries.
Joining the largest one-day, student-run service project in the nation.
Keeping Brazos Valley roads clean alongside our brothers.
Showing up wherever the community needs a hand throughout the year.
Signature events
In partnership with Maggies, Iron Spikes organized its first-ever Charity Home Run Derby. All proceeds go to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Brazos Valley, and one of our past actives took home the win.
100% of proceeds to BBBS
Held at Sevick’s Service Center on Harvey Mitchell Parkway (FM 2818) and Longmire Dr. with Alpha Zeta Chi, benefiting BBBS and the Sexual Assault Resource Center.
$850+ raised in one day
Partnering with Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, our blood drive blew past its goal of 20 donations. We look forward to making it bigger every semester.
